OBIT 1: George Ferguson who died Monday, was one of the oldest of the pioneers to be born in Kittitas County. He was born April 30, 1882, the son of James and Elizabeth McEwen Ferguson and lived for 92 years on or within just a few miles of his parents' homestead. Elizabeth McEwen Ferguson crossed the plains with her parents in 1857. They came from Iowa to the Puget County country and then moved to Kittitas in 1871 when with her husband and their two children, Mac and Olive, they rode horseback across Snoqualmie Pass, driving their horses and cattle. Their homestead was by the road now called Ferguson Rd. and there, close by the Nanum in the shelter of the willows and wild roses, they built their log cabin using trees from the Yakima canyon. Their livestock was turned out on the foothills and the Columbia open range. George Ferguson was always associated with the livestock industry. As a young man, he rode the range, helping with the fall and spring roundups. Many horses and cattle carried the Ferguson brand (Circle Eleven). His other activities included seven years as pick up man with the rodeo here, serving as a charter member of the Kittitas Historical Society. A sister, Mrs. Bessie Phelps, and a brother, Ben, still live on a part of the old Ferguson homestead. February 18, 1974 ------------------------------- OBIT 2: George H. Ferguson, 91, died at Haven House Monday. He was born April 30, 1882 in the Nanum district, son of James Ferguson and Elizabeth McEwen Ferguson. He was married to Marie Wright, Feb. 11, 1936 at Ellensburg and has farmed just east of Ellensburg since 1910. He is survived by his wife, Marie, three daughters, Mrs. Thelma (John) Maxson of Bellevue, Mrs. Phyllis (Clifford) Gage of Ellensburg, and Mrs. Sandra (Gary) Reppe of Fountain Valley, California; and one step son, Ace Gage of Ellensburg, seven grandchildren; a brother, Ben Ferguson of Ellensburg; and a sister Mrs. Bessie Phelps of Ellensburg. Funeral services will be Thursday at Evenson's at 2 p.m., the Rev. James Carter officiating. Interment will follow at the IOOF mausoleum. Ellensburg Daily Record, February 20, 1974
