| Description | : | George Hosea Hemphill was the son of Thomas Patton and Mary Ann Flack Hemphill. He first married Elmira Wilkerson, and second, a widow, Effie Iowa Queen Parker. After losing baby Elmira Pearl a year after his first wife died, he raised his other six children, most of whom attended college (a rarity in rural NC).
