WV and ultimately to present-day Gilmer County, West Virginia. George Houser Beall served in the War of 1812 and received land grants for his service. George Houser Beall served in the War of 1812 and received land grants for his service. The children of George H. and Mary Ann Parsons Beall include John R., Mary Ann (Pickens), George J., Henry M., Isaac, Elizabeth Ann (VanDevender), Hamilton Chaney, James F., Jemima Permelia (Brannon), Harvey Bradshaw, Jonathan M., Warren Wellington, and Susan Frances (Danley) Beall. In a 1986 Pisgah Church homecoming address, Bradford Davis stated that "George laid out his farm near the mouth of Cedar Creek where B.G. Roberts now lives and Townsend Beall, my great-grandfather, owned the place that became my father's farm." George is probably interred in this cemetery, according to researchers and many descendants. Dr. James Woofter, in The Chronology of the Descendants of John and Elizabeth Beall, names Pisgah as his burial location. However, some descendants believe he was interred in the Riddle Cemetery near Third Run. George owned property in that area also, but many of his family members are buried at Pisgah by the mouth of Cedar Creek. Further, his wife, Mary Ann Parsons Beall, is believed to be buried here as well as his mother, Elizabeth Richards Beall. In his 1938 Master's thesis (History, WVU), Bradford W Davis writes: "George H Beall, lieutenant in the War of 1812, was born near Jamestown, Virginia about 1792. He married Mary A. Parsons of Randolph County, now West Virginia. They came to what is now Gilmer County in 1814, and settled near the mouth of Cedar Creek on the Little Kanawha River. George H. Beall died in 1863 and was buried at the Third Run Cemetery [Riddle cemetery] on the right of the road a half mile above where Third Run empties into the Little Kanawha River." Davis cites an interview with E.M. Beall as his source for this information. There is no original and legible headstone extant for George H. Beall in either place. The marker at Pisgah Cemetery was erected by the cemetery preservation group and is shown in the photo attached. This findagrave memorial uses the dates given on the group memorial marker at Pisgah. * * * * * From an article in the Glenville paper (Thurs. Sept. 29, 1938) about the Beall-Brannon reunion held at the Pisgah Methodist church that year: "The historic spot of Pisgah, near Dekalb, oldest village in the county and former county seat of Gilmer county, was the place chosen for the Beall and Brannon reunion again this year--September 18. "This place is revered by these and other families because it is so rich in memories and traditions of the valley. Here the early pioneers, as soon as they established homes, built a log church on the elevation which overlooks the Little Kanawha River, just across from the mouth of Cedar Creek, and called it Pisgah. "Among the earliest pioneers, who came to this valley in 1814, were John G. Brannon and his wife, Nancy Beall Brannon, Irish and English descent, from Randolph county; George H. Beall and wife, Mary A. (Parsons) Beall; Townsend Beall and wife, Catherine (Parsons) Beall (English), brothers from near Jamestown, who married sisters from what is now Tucker county but then a part of Randolph county."
