Mr. Smithey was born February 22, 1936 in Horry County, a son of the late G.W. and Addie Rouse Smithey. He was the former owner and operator of Smithey’s Garage and Wrecker Service. MULLINS - Mr. George Howard Smithey, 83, husband of Judith Brown Smithey, passed away Saturday, August 24, 2019 at his home after an illness. Mr. Smithey was born February 22, 1936 in Horry County, a son of the late G.W. and Addie Rouse Smithey. He was the former owner and operator of Smithey’s Garage and Wrecker Service. Being a retired race car driver, he loved racing. Mr. Smithey was a US Army veteran, having served in the Korean War. He was a member of the VFW. Mr. Smithey was a member of Little Bethel Baptist Church. Surviving Mr. Smithey in addition to his wife of the home are four daughters, Betty (Bobby) Bowen of Abbeville, Gwen Brown Lewis of Marion, Marie (Jimmy) Gray of Marion and Teressa (David, III) Taylor of Marion; his twin sister, Georgia Mae (Arthur) Nobles of Marion; and 7 grandchildren. Being raised in a large family, Mr. Smithey was predeceased by several brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 26 at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Cox-Collins Funeral Home, with Rev. Scott Collins officiating. Burial will follow in Little Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.
