Description	:	George H Cosper, of Co. F, enrolled Sep. 22, 1861 in Waterloo by Capt. Merrill as a Private; mustered in Nov. 22, 1861 in Ft. Wayne by Lt. Stansbury at age 20. He was 5' 11.50" tall, light complexion, black eyes, and brown hair. Born Jul. 2, 1842 in Chemung Co., NY, employed as a farmer, single, resident of Jarvis, in DeKalb Co., IN. Mustered out at the end of the war Sep. 14, 1865 in Nashville, TN with rank of Captain. Notes: Came to IN 1844. Promoted 5th Sergeant Sep. 1, 1862. Wounded in face at Shiloh. Finger amputation... Mar. 1863; 2nd Lieutenant Feb. 28, 1863; 1st Lieutenant Sep. 21, 1863; Captain Jan. 3, 1864. Reenlisted Jan. 1, 1864. Married Evoline Dirrim Feb. 18, 1864 (married 55 years). On leave Nov. 12, 1864. On daily duty as member of Gen. Court Martial Jul. 27-Sept, 1865. He was sent to the doctor once during the 4 years and the doctor gave him a wine glass full of castor oil; he concluded that would be about enough medicine to last him the balance of the war and didn't go back for more.-Hamilton News Sep. 23, 1921. He filed Invalid Pension Application to receive Pension Certificate #108550 Sep. 27, 1869 and received $7 pension for loss index finger left hand. Resident of KS 1880; of Hamilton 1891-1922 where he died Dec. 14, 1922. Buried in Hamilton Cemetery. Evoline filed Widow's Pension Application to receive Widow's Pension Certificate #929154 Dec. 29, 1922, in IN.
