Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, at the Arlington Community Church with Rev. Lynn Martin officiating. Military honors will be conducted at the church following service by American Legion Post No. 71, and V.F.W. Post No. 8332, both of Arlington. A private interment service will be held at Ridge Cemetery in Fremont. George I. Haney was born Nov. 9, 1919, in rural Fremont. He was a lifelong resident of Fremont, except for his service in the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Haney served from Dec. 23, 1940 until Oct. 20, 1945, in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He was a farmer, and worked on the family farm east of Fremont, where he was born. He also operated Haney Fertilizer Company from 1966 until 1983. On Dec. 20, 1965, he married Ellen Lass in Fremont. He was a member of Arlington Legion Post No. 71, Arlington Veteran of Foreign Wars Post No. 8332, where he was a past commander and life member; member of Fremont Chapter 18, Disabled American Veterans; former member of Fremont Voiture 1018, 40 and 8; member of Hiram Lodge 52, A.F. & A.M. of Arlington; Nebraska York Rite Bodies of Fremont; and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 200 of Fremont. He is survived by his wife, Ellen; son and daughter-in-law, George P. and Lori Haney of Fremont; four grandchildren; three sisters, Vera Haney and Alice Delaney, both of Fremont, and Lillian (Mrs. Ronald) Duncan of Spring Valley, Calif; and two sisters-in-law, Faye Haney and Clara Haney, both of Fremont. He was preceded in death by his brothers, James and Floyd, and sisters, Mary and Lora. Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association or the Kidney Foundation.
