One of this worthy number who, while advancing his individual interests, has at the same time greatly beneﬁted the community at large, is George J. Biesnecker, a progressive farmer of State Center township. Mr. Biesnecker was born in Bavaria, Germany, December 23, 1869, and there he spent his early boyhood, being fourteen years of age when he emigrated to America. Penetrating to State Center, Iowa, he remained there two weeks, then continued his journey westward to Nebraska where he spent two years; he then returned to Marshall county and has lived in the vicinity of Melbourne, Iowa, ever since. He has always been identiﬁed with agricultural interests and his efforts in his chosen vocation have met with a large measure of success and he is today regarded as one of the prosperous farmers of his community. Conrad Biesnecker, his father, was born in Bavaria in 1841, and there he grew to maturity and married Catharine Diener, also a native of Bavaria, her birth occurring in 1845. They came to America in 1885 and secured a good home in Melbourne, this county, where they are still residing and where they have a host of friends. Seven children were born to them, George J. of this review, being the eldest; the others are, Elizabeth Bear, born December 5, 1871, lives at Melbourne; Maggie Bollenbacher, born in 1871, also lives at Melbourne; Richard, born in 1873, lives in State Center township; John, born in 1875, lives in Collins, Iowa; Eva Bernard, born in 1878, lives in State Center township; Conrad, Jr., born in 1880, lives at Melbourne. George J. Biesnecker did not have an opportunity to receive an extensive education, but he has become well informed through home reading and by contact with the world. He was married on September 10, 1892, to Mrs. Lena Klatt, who was born in Pomerania, Germany, July 8, 1865. She was the daughter of Christian and Wilhelmina (Klatt) Klingbeil, who were natives of Germany, where they spent their lives. Their family consisted of five children, namely: William is living in Germany; Lena, wife of Mr. Biesnecker of this review; Albert lives in Logan township, this county; August lives in Colorado; Frank's residence is unknown. There are three children in this family by a former marriage. John Klatt was born in Germany March 28, 1862, and died December 31, 1899. The children are as follows: Minnie Witt, born March 31, 1886, is residing near Melbourne; Ida, born December 15, 1887, is living at home; William J., born March 8, 1890, is living at home. These children were born in Logan township and reared in State Center town ship. Christian Klingbeil came to America later in life and died in Logan township, Marshall county, Iowa, his wife having died in Germany. Politically, Mr. Biesnecker is a Republican and he and his wife are members of the German Reformed church at Melbourne, and he belongs to the camp of Modern Woodmen of America at Melbourne. The subject's farm, which consists of one hundred and sixty acres, is one of the most productive and best improved in the township, and he has a comfortable home and good outbuildings.
