Description	:	George Goodbrod was born at Utica, Neb., February 7, 1879. He passed away at Warren Memorial Hospital in Friend January 6, 1966. George was a lifelong, dedicated hardware merchant, having worked as a boy in his father's store. In 1900 he started his own business in Cordova and served that community for 23 years. After living briefly in California, he and his family resided in Hastings, Neb. In 1926 the family moved to Exeter, where he resumed the hardware business for another 27 years. He passed away at Warren Memorial Hospital in Friend January 6, 1966. George was a lifelong, dedicated hardware merchant, having worked as a boy in his father's store. In 1900 he started his own business in Cordova and served that community for 23 years. After living briefly in California, he and his family resided in Hastings, Neb. In 1926 the family moved to Exeter, where he resumed the hardware business for another 27 years. Although retired for the last 12 years, he never lost interest in the hardware trade. In 1904 Mr. Goodbrod and Jewell Murray were married in the Friend Methodist Church. Their one daughter, Maxine Porter, lives in Lincoln. there are two grandchildren, Patricia Porter of Athens, Greece, and George Porter of Cambridge, Mass., and two great-grandchildren, Jeffrey and Leah Porter. Devotion to his family and service to his community were his daily interest. He was a member of the Exeter Methodist Church. He had been a member of the Masonic lodge more than 50 years. Wile a member of the Exeter lodge, he received the Jordan medal in recognition of his many years of leadership. He served as a member of the Exeter town board, always being keenly interested in the local progress and stability of his community. Brothers and sisters surviving him are Mrs. Clara Stolz, Lincoln; J.C. Goodbrod, San Diego, Cal.; Mrs. Anna Marr, Utica; Mrs. Nettie Hurlburt, San Diego; Walter Goodbrod, Lincoln; Mrs. Gertrude Miller, York; Norman Goodbrod, Grinnell, Ia.; Mrs. Peter Baird, Lincoln; Mrs. A.R. Owens, Loup City; and Rupert Goodbrod, Greeley, Col. A sister, Mrs. Lena Ruettenbeck, preceded him in death. Funeral services were held Sunday, January 9, at the Exeter Methodist church at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Ray Hankins officiating. Burial was in the Exeter Cemetery. T. Baird, Lincoln; Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Owens, Loup City; Mrs. Gertrude Miller, York, and Mrs. D. E. Marr, Utica. Seward County Independent, Seward, NE, Wed, January 19, 1966 Rupert Goodbrod, Greeley, Colo., has spent a few days with his sister, Mrs. D. E. Marr.
