George was born on May 31, 1915 in Butler County, Iowa to John and Margaret (Bohlen) Haan. George attended Parkersburg Country School. He was married to Francis Rewerts on August 29, 1940 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. He worked as a butter maker at the Kesley Creamery, and was a member of the Kesley Presbyterian Church. George loved to go hunting and ice fishing. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandsons. George is survived by his wife Francis Haan of Aplington; son Russell Haan of Parkersburg; daughter Shirley and husband Gary Marks of Hampton; grandsons: Jason and Jeffrey Marks, both of Glenwood Springs Colorado; brother Andrew Haan of Clarksville and a sister Jeanette Birley of Aplington. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 17, 2003 at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Dumont with Pastor Mike Brost officiating. Special music was provided by Ann Koenigsberg accompanying the duet of Mary Mollenbeck and Deb Hartkopp. Pallbearers were Jason Marks, Jeffrey Marks, Donny Cashatt, Rick Cashatt, Larry Birley and Leroy Ostendorf. Final resting place was in the Washington Reformed Church Cemetery, rural Ackley, Iowa. Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Dumont was in charge of arrangements.
