The family lived in the Exira community where George attended rural schools through the 6th grade. Then he was employed as a hired man for area farmers. The family lived in the Exira community where George attended rural schools through the 6th grade. Then he was employed as a hired man for area farmers. On January 20, 1931, George Jensen Lund, married Bertha Clara Bauer, the daughter of John Louis Bauer and Emma Hammann Bauer, also natives of Exira. They farmed southeast of Exira for 5 years and then moved northwest of Anita in 1936. They moved to a farm that they'd bought 4 miles northwest of Anita in 1943. George was a livestock and grain farmer. When they retired from farming in 1970, they moved into a home in Anita. George once was a director of the rural schools, had a cream route, and was active in church and community affairs. He also sold an area seed corn. Bertha kept busy caring for her family, cooking, gardening, raising chickens, sewing, keeping house and doing church work. Bertha and George enjoyed being active in the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Anita, traveling and spending time with their children and 12 grandchildren. They were the parents of 3 children: Norma Jean Lund, born 28 May 1933; Arlyn Leroy Lund, born 4 Oct 1938; and Ivyn Lee Lund, born 8 April 1943. Bertha passed away 5 Sept 1972. On 2 Dec 1973, George married Hester Dorsey, also of Anita. George had a series of strokes and in May 1974, he became a resident of Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Anita, due to a major stroke.
