Mr. Putney was one of the old settlers in Saunders county and by careful farming and with good business methods became one of the richest citizens in the county. It can be said for Mr. Putney that he was kind, charitable and benevolent. He leaves a widow and two children, a son, W. G. Putney, principal of the schools at Weston, Neb., and a daughter, Mrs. Tharp, who lives in Wahoo." - Fremont Tribune, Page 2; January 8, 1914 "Died in Nebraska. Wahoo, Neb., Jan. 6. George J. Putney, aged sixty-nine, died last night, after an illness covering a period of several years. He settled on a homestead in Green precinct near Ithaca, in 1867, where the family resided until 1906, when they sold the farm, since which time they have resided in Wahoo. He was an older soldier, belonging to John A. Andrew G. A. R. post, Wahoo. A widow and two children survive him, Will G. Putney, superintendent of the Weston schools, and Mrs. Myrtle Tharp, of this city [Wahoo]. The funeral will be held from the residence Thursday at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev.
