Description	:	On May 12, 1914, occurred the death of George Joachim Martin Dittmer, after a week's illness, the cause of his death being a complication of diseases. He was born in Hamburg, Germany, on May 31, 1837, as a son of Mr. and Mrs. John E. C. Dittmer, and was 75 years, 11 months and 11 days of age at the time of his death. Read More	On May 12, 1914, occurred the death of George Joachim Martin Dittmer, after a week's illness, the cause of his death being a complication of diseases. He was born in Hamburg, Germany, on May 31, 1837, as a son of Mr. and Mrs. John E. C. Dittmer, and was 75 years, 11 months and 11 days of age at the time of his death. Burial was in the Guttenburg, Iowa, Cemetery. In the fall of 1850, he came to the United States, settling in Jefferson Township, Clayton County, Iowa, and where he was engaged in farming for many years. On April 6, 1865, he was united in marriage at Guttenberg to Miss Anna Caroline Aulwes. In the fall of 1903 deceased came to Guttenberg with his family, where he resided until his death. Mr. Dittmer was an ambitious man and a kind and true husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, always ready with heart and hand to do kind acts for others. He was also one of Clayton County's pioneer musicians being a member of the Dittmer band for many years, and he always enjoyed good music. His death is deeply mourned by his widow, 3 sons (Gustav, Jr., of Guttenberg, and Henry and William, of Ireton, Iowa), 1 daughter (Mrs. John Rademaker [Rademacher], of Guttenberg), 1 brother (Gustav Dittmer, Sr., of Guttenberg), 10 grandchildren and a large circle of relatives and friends by whom he will be sadly missed. Deceased had been a resident of Clayton County for almost 64 years. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at his late residence. Rev. K. W. Brown [Braun], of Garnavillo, will officiate at the funeral Thursday, 21 May 1914, Guttenberg, Iowa.
