Description	:	Was born in St. John's Broadcreek, Prince George's Co., Maryland, died in Smith Farm, Mountain View (Purdum), Montomgery Co., Maryland George Walker, son of Francis Walker and Catharine Ball, was a teenager, 17 or 18, when the Revolutionary War took place. He volunteered. He was in the battle of Germantown. He served under Captain John Drawbridge at Valley Forge. Read More	Was born in St. John's Broadcreek, Prince George's Co., Maryland, died in Smith Farm, Mountain View (Purdum), Montomgery Co., Maryland George Walker, son of Francis Walker and Catharine Ball, was a teenager, 17 or 18, when the Revolutionary War took place. He volunteered. He was in the battle of Germantown. He served under Captain John Drawbridge at Valley Forge. George Walker was not fighting for the flag -- when the war started Betsy Ross had not yet put it together -- and he was not fighting for our National Anthem: Francis Scott Key didn't write that until 40 some years later in the war of 1812. If he was like most of the colonists who fought, it was for freedom to be let alone by people far away, freedom from taxes imposed by others, freedom to think and worship for oneself, freedom to be governed by people who the people themselves had elected. In the latter part of April, 1826, George was bitten by his dog, which proved to be rabid. On june 26, 1826, he passed away without a struggle and without any of the characteristic behavior of the disease. There is a small stone in the cemetery of the Bethesda United Methodist Church at Browningsville, Maryland, reading: "In memory of George Walker, 1759 - 1826."
