Description	:	George Joseph Peters was the son of Ralph Emerson and Margaret Sarah Ammann Peters. He attended Jackson Township country school and graduated from Montezuma High School in 1948. He helped on the family farm, then entered into the United States Marine Corps from 1952-1954 during the Korean War where he was assigned to the DMZ at the 38th Parallel. George worked as the... Read More	George Joseph Peters was the son of Ralph Emerson and Margaret Sarah Ammann Peters. He attended Jackson Township country school and graduated from Montezuma High School in 1948. He helped on the family farm, then entered into the United States Marine Corps from 1952-1954 during the Korean War where he was assigned to the DMZ at the 38th Parallel. He was married to Vera Mae Raynor on August 11, 1954 in Jacksonville, North Carolina. Upon discharge they returned to helping on the family farm, later moving to Cedar Rapids in 1963. George worked as the parts manager for Schwitters for 3 years. He later worked for the United States Post Office as a letter carrier for 30 years retiring in 1996. He was a courtesy driver for Junge and McGrath Auto dealerships and also for Meals on Wheels. George was a member of the American Legion and VFW 788 in Cedar Rapids and a 60 year member of the Hillside Wesleyan Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. George loved playing in the garden, yard work, watching NASCAR, helping and attending his children and grandchildren’s events. He was a handy man, bowled for many years and enjoyed playing horseshoes.
