Description	:	George was born in Carnanreagh, Claudy Parish, County Derry, Ireland in about May of 1834. George's parents were John and Sophia Kirlin of Carnanreagh, County Derry, Ireland. His father, John, was in the 1831 census in Carnanreagh. GEORGE'S MOTHER SOPHIA immigrated to Philadelphia in 1861 with her daughter, George's sister Mary Kirlin (who married James McNamee in Philadelphia.) In the 1870 census, Sophia was staying with George and his family in Taylor, Harrison, Iowa. By 1875, Sophia was back in Philadelphia, and she is listed in the Philadelphia Directory, at her daughter's address, as "Sophia Kirlin,... His father, John, was in the 1831 census in Carnanreagh. GEORGE'S MOTHER SOPHIA immigrated to Philadelphia in 1861 with her daughter, George's sister Mary Kirlin (who married James McNamee in Philadelphia.) In the 1870 census, Sophia was staying with George and his family in Taylor, Harrison, Iowa. By 1875, Sophia was back in Philadelphia, and she is listed in the Philadelphia Directory, at her daughter's address, as "Sophia Kirlin, widow of John." Sophia's daughter and George's sister, Mary McNamee, died in 1877. In the 1880 census, Sophia is living with her son-in-law James McNamee and her granddaughter Margaret McNamee at the same address. Sophia died in 1888 in Philadelphia. George Kirlin was a first cousin of the Kirlin brothers -- Dennis (b. 1833), Patrick (b. 1826), Michael (b. 1836), Philip Jr. (b. 1841) and John (b. 1843)--- who were all from Carnanreagh, County Derry, Ireland and who all immigrated to Harrison County, Iowa. They were all sons of Phillip Kirlin Sr. of Carnanreagh. In addition to it being known from family history that George was their cousin, the obituary of George's daughter, Mary Alice Kirlin Fitzpatrick, says that she was the 2nd cousin of Michael Kirlin and Mrs. W. H. Welch (Catherine Kirlin Welch) of Missouri Valley. Michael and Catherine were the children of Phillip Kirlin Jr., George's 1st cousin. According to the 1900 U.S. Census, George Kirlin immigrated to the U.S. in 1864. According to family history, he came with his cousin Michael Kirlin. His occupation was "farmer." On September 21, 1865, George Kilrin married Mary McSwiggin (born June 1843 in Ireland). They married in Omaha, Nebraska. Both were residents of Harrison County, Iowa.
