Description	:	Ashley, N.D. - Funeral service for George Kost, 84, of Ashley, will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2005, at Zion Lutheran Church at Ashley. The Rev. Jeff Giles will officiate. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery at Ashley with military graveside rites by Frank Piper American Legion Post #53. Visitation will be Monday from 4-6 p.m. at the funeral home. He died Nov. 4, 2005, at the Ashley Nursing Home. George Kost, son of Edward and Elizabeth (Ebel) Kost was born Feb. 17, 1921, at Artas, S.D. This is where he grew up while attending school in the Artas and Herreid area. He worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps from 1938 to 1939. In 1940, he then went to work on the family farm north of Ashley. He entered the United States Army in February 1945 and was honorably discharged in November 1946. He returned home and worked for Frisch and Ehley Construction. He was united in marriage to Olga Jenner on Oct. 16, 1950, in Zion Lutheran Church at Ashley. He was the water commissioner for the City of Ashley. From 1965 to 1995, he and his wife were the owners and operators of George's Bar in Ashley. George enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing cards. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Frank Piper American Legion Post #53 and Veteran's of Foreign War. Survivors include his wife of Ashley; one son, Steve (Denise) Kost of Stockton, Calif.; one daughter, Sandi (Mike) Kessel of Indianapolis, Ind.; one brother, Jacob (Clara) Kost of Ashley; one sister, Frieda Schnabel of Ashley and six grandchildren, Danielle Kessel, Kimberly Kessel, Erica Pedro, Gabe Kost, Lindsay Kost and Philip Kost. His parents, three brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. Honorary Casketbearers will be his grandchildren. Casketbearers will be Don Weber, Kenneth Schnabel, Douglas Jenner, Ronnie Kost, Gary Jenner and Mark Meier. There will be special music by Mary Ann and Kaye Weber. The family prefers memorials be made to Zion Lutheran Church, PO Box 257, Ashley, ND 58413. Carlsen Funeral Home of Ashley have been entrusted with the arrangements.
