Shaw, mention of whose critical illness was made in Saturday evening's issue of this paper, lingered until 7 o'clock on Sunday evening, when his spirit fled to its maker, Bright's disease being given as the cause of death. George L. Shaw was 75 years old at the time of his death and was one of the most highly respected citizens in the city and surrounding country, but of late years he had been confined to his home most all the time, owing to his hearing being bad and he feared to trust himself about the city alone. He was a member of the G.A.R. and had a war record that was pleasing to his family and friends, he having went in the service of his country when the call was made for volunteers in 1861, he going out with Company B, 75th Volunteer Infantry and rose rapidly in the service, being mustered out at the close of the memorable struggle, as first lieutenant, and a war record that caused his case to be called to the National congress many years later when he was voted a pension that was sufficient to allow him to live in affluence. (Elwood Daily Record, May 29, 1910.) ANSWERED CALL George Shaw Dies on Memorial Eve. LIST OF THE DEPARTED One more member of R.L. Leason Post, G.A.R. ansuwered to the last roll call last evening on the eve of Memorial day, and the entire post is bowed in grief this morning over the death of George L. Shaw, who passed away at his home 1120 South A St., at 7:20 last evening. The deceased had been suffering with Bright's disease for the past several years and death had been almost hourly expected for a number of days. Quarter of Century Here. The deceased was one of the best known residents of the city and had made his home in Elwood for a quarter of a century. Previous to his removal to this city he had lived in the New Lancaster neighborhood and he had hundreds of friends throughout this entire vicinity. On November 26 of last year, he celebrated his 62nd anniversary of his marriage to Elizabeth Balser, and of that union twelve children were born, 2 boys and three girls of whom are still living. He is also survived by two sisters who will attend the funeral. Mr. Shaw was a first lieutenant in Company B of the 75th regiment, Indiana Volunteers. He served throughout the war and was distinguished for hsi bravery and faithful observance to duty during the service. The funeral will be held at the St. Joseph church, Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock and interment will follow in the city cemetery. The G.A.R., S. of V., and the W.R.C. will attend in a body. Shaw enlisted as a private in Company B, 75th Indiana Volunteer Infantry on July 17, 1862 and was discharged after only five months on december 1, 1862, as a Lieutenant of that unit with a Certificate of Disability.
