Description	:	George L. Bryant was an Alachua County Deputy and the Town Marshal at High Springs, FL. He was shot and killed by Duncan Jordan in the doorway of Jordan's home while attempting to arrest a drunken Jordan for beating and threatening a boy's life. Marshal Bryant had arrested Jordan nearly a year earlier, and reportedly, Jordan had vowed he would kill Marshal Bryant. At the time of his death, George was married to his third wife, Bessie Douberly. In addition to their children, George D., Susie O., Ruby L., Rosa L., Grace, and Lois; he was also survived by a son from his marriage to Susan Clyatt, Leslie C. Bryant. George Bryant was also chronicled in 'Forgotton Hero's: Police Officers Killed In Early Florida, 1840-1925', by William Wilbanks. NOTE: George's son, Leslie, and his decendants, were overlooked in this book's narrative about George Bryant. Interestingly, more than one of Marshal Bryant's descendants chose law enforcement careers. NAME NOTE: I've spelled his middle name as found in family papers.
