Description	:	UNION - George Lee Bates Sr., 81, of 158 Ellis St. died April 9, 2002, at Wallace Thomson Hospital after a brief illness. A native of Pinckneyville, he was a son of the late William Claude and Emma May Gallman Bates. He was a member of Mon-Aetna Baptist Church, a veteran of the Marine Corps and was retired from Milliken Company and Torrington Company. Survivors include two daughters, Wanda Calhoun and Carolyn Watson, both of Union; two sons, George L. Bates Jr. and Burton Bates, both of Union; a sister, Dorothy Moore of Union; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. The... Holcombe Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Mon-Aetna Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Benny Green. Burial will be in Bethlehem United Methodist Church Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. The family is at the home.
