Description	:	George Leonard Milbrodt, 83, of Sioux City died Saturday, Oct. 23, 2004, in Sioux City. Services will be 10:30 a.m. today at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hinton, Iowa, with the Rev. David Zirpell of Redeemer Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel. Mr. Milbrodt was born June 13, 1921, in rural Akron, Iowa, the son of Herman Fredrick and Meta Alma (Frerichs) Milbrodt. He was raised in the Akron area and attended country school. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and was captured by the Germans during the Battle of the Bulge in December 1944. He was librated in April 1945 and returned to the United States and was discharged from the service in November 1945. He married Blanche "Sue" Schawarberg on Sept. 13, 1945, in Fort Thomas, Ky. They returned to Plymouth County, Iowa, after his discharge. They farmed in the Akron area until 1956, when they moved to a farm near Hinton, Iowa. Sue preceded him in death in May 1991. On June 4, 1993, he married Marjorie Derby Haralson of Sioux City. They resided on the farm near Hinton until his health began to fail. They moved to Sioux City in February 2003. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hinton. He was a member of the Ex-P.O.W. including the state and national chapters. He was a longtime member of the American Legion Casper Post 477 in Hinton and the Plymouth County Farm Bureau. He was involved with the Plymouth County Extension Council and the 4-H Youth committee. He enjoyed visiting with others and his grandchildren, but he loved farming. Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Milbrodt of Sioux City; a son and his wife, David and Tammie Milbrodt of Hinton; four daughters and their husbands, Peggy and Daryl East of Jefferson, Iowa, Carolyn and Mike Montagne of Sioux City, Cynthia and Dan Schueler of Clovis, Calif., and Michelle and Doug Marks of Lawton, Iowa; a stepdaughter and her husband, Cherie and Doan Worley of Columbus, Neb.; a stepson, Scott Haralson of Lawton, Okla.; two brothers and their wives, Bob and Joan Milbrodt of Sioux City and Artie and Reta Milbrodt of Akron; five sisters, Ruth Heubrock of Hawarden, Iowa, Dorothy and her husband, Rodney Lane of Meckling, S.D., Vera Hanson of Sioux City, Mary and her husband, John Miller of Rock Valley, Iowa, and Edith and her husband, Jim Small of Akron; 14 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a great-stepgrandchild; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Blanche "Sue" Milbrodt; two sons, Jon Milbrodt and Brooks Jon Milbrodt; his parents; and seven brothers, Hank, Clarence, Fritz, Herman, Bill, Mervin and Bernie Milbrodt. Pallbearers will be Brandon East, Justin East, Ryan East, Kenton East, James Montagne, Patrick Milbrodt and Jacob Worley. Honorary pallbearers will be Ex-P.O.W.'s and spouses. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Siouxland or Trinity Lutheran Church in Hinton.
