It is in the Presbytery of Ross. The principal settlement is the village of Evanton, and the parish extends almost to Dingwall and about halfway to Alness. The old Kiltearn church and burial ground are on the shore of the Cromarty Firth. The church is ruinous but dates from 1790.[1] The current church (Free Church Continuing) is on the main street in Evanton. Extract an entry in an Old Parochial Register of Births and Baptisms, in 1747: "John Logan, Servant in _____ had a Child born the twelfth Day of March & baptized the fiventeenth day name George before witness George Sutherland & James Munro in ____. The Logan family departed on 08 November 1806, on the ship, the "Elizabeth & Ann," from Thurso, North Britain (Scotland) and arrived at Charlottetown, P.E.I. date unknown but the voyage would have taken at least 2-3 weeks, they settled in the Hardwood Hill (Heathbell) district of Pictou Co, Nova Scotia. PLEA - Passenger List of the Elizabeth & Ann, 1806, Thurso to Charlottetown, P.E.I., Copies in P.A.N.S. ref. MG 100-16,66 and P.A.P.E.I. ref. 2702 4701: Logan, George b ca 1748. It lies 5 miles north-east of Bonar Bridge and is in the Scottish council area of Highland. 'Dale' is from the Old Norse Dalr, meaning 'valley' but the origin of the name is otherwise unclear. It was referred to as 'Spanigidill' in 1464, the pronunciation of which bears a close resemblance to modern Gaelic.[1][2] The A949 road, the old A9 before the 1991 opening of the Dornoch Firth Bridge, passes through Spinningdale.
