Description	:	George Schneider, for thirty-five years a resident of this community, died early Sunday Morning at his home in this city, following an illness of several years from cancer of the stomach during which he endured intense suffering. His death came as a happy relief from suffering. His health had failed gradually during the past ten years. About a year and a half ago he submitted to an operation at Rochester, Minnesota, but the cancerous condition had already made such advances that he never really recovered from the operation. . Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Schneider home and at 2:30 at Trinity Lutheran Church, with the pastor, Rev. George Steinkamp in charge. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery. . George Schneider was born March 1, 1869, at Wachbach, Wurtemberg, Germany, and died in Hawarden February 24, 1929, lacking but 5 days of being 60 years of age. In 1882, with one of his sisters, he came to America, settling first in Benton county, Iowa. After a few years there he came of O’Brien county and lived for several years near Remsen. He came to Sioux County in 1894, locating on a farm seven miles northeast of Hawarden. At a later time he moved to a farm northwest of Hawarden, but gave up farming in 1917 and moved his family to Hawarden where he has since resided. In October, 1897, he was united in marriage with Lena Boldenow, who together with five children, survives to mourn his death. The children are Carl, John, George, Mrs. Carl Peters and Miss Caroline, all of Hawarden and vicinity. Besides the immediate family, he leaves two brothers, Fred Schneider of Ramona, South Dakota, and Andrew Schneider of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and two sisters, one residing at Coleridge, Nebraska, and the other at Spanglo, Washington Source: Hawarden Independent (2-28-1929)
