Description	:	George Marion Smith, 73, of Norway, SC, passed away peacefully at his home, May 25, 2018, surrounded by family and friends. He was the husband of Margaret "Marcel" Hair Smith. George was born February 13, 1945, to the late V. S. Smith and Hazel Sandifer Smith. He was a graduate of USC with a B.S. Degree in Business Administration. He was a retired facilities technician for Bell South. He was an active, beloved member of Willow Swamp Baptist Church and served as a deacon and in many other leadership roles. He was the husband of Margaret "Marcel" Hair Smith. George was born February 13, 1945, to the late V. S. Smith and Hazel Sandifer Smith. He was a graduate of USC with a B.S. Degree in Business Administration. He was a retired facilities technician for Bell South. He was an active, beloved member of Willow Swamp Baptist Church and served as a deacon and in many other leadership roles. He was a Mason for fifty years, a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans and served in the Army National Guard. He enjoyed golf, hunting and gardening. Survivors include his wife of the home, daughter: Marianne Smith McElveen (Sandy) of Landrum, SC; special friends: Charles and Brenda Bowers and Emily Jackson; and God children: Joey Brown and Jordan Brown Shirey. The funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Monday, May 28, 2018 at Willow Swamp Baptist Church, Norway, SC with the Reverends Benjamin Harr and Jason Metcalf officiating. Burial will follow in Willow Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery with Masonic rites. The family will receive friends at Dukes-Harley Funeral Home on Sunday, May 27, 2018 from 5 - 7 PM or at the residence at other times. Honored to serve as pallbearers are Joey Brown, Gerald Brown, Ray Williams, Victor Garrick, Glenn Barr, Bart Copeland, Mark Shirey and David Pregnall. Honorary pallbearers will be past and present deacons of Willow Swamp Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to Willow Swamp Baptist Church, Mission Fund, P. O. Box 444, Norway, SC 29113.
