He was a veterinary surgeon by training. **** Obituary: June 19, 1911; Cedar Rapids Evening Gazette Dr. George McClellan Osborn was born in Lafayette, Walworth Co., Wisconsin, April 8th, 1862, and died yesterday morning at his home, 128 North Fourth street west. His boyhood was spent in Fairfax, where the family moved June 19th, 1863, his father's home being the first residence on the town plat. He attended the State college at Ames, graduating from the veterinary department in 1884. After a year as house surgeon in the same department he commenced his professional work as an inspector at Missouri Valley, Iowa, and later at Fremont, Nebraska. He was state veterinarian of Nebraska for a time and later practiced his profession at Lebanon, Mo., at Fairfax, and at Cedar Rapids, where recently he had acted as meat inspector for the city. He was recognized as a leader in his profession and his opinion was widely respected. He was a member of the Masonic fraternity and the Order of Eagles, in the former attaining the rank of Knight Templar and in the latter serving as secretary and president. He was married in Fairfax, Nov. 8, 1892, to Adella Peoples, who died in January, 1903. Two children survive him, Harold, eighteen and Theodora, fifteen years of age. Interment was made today in the Fairfax cemetery, the cemetery which his father helped to establish nearly fifty years ago, and which for many years was an object of his devoted attention. The funeral was held at 10 o'clock this morning at the Osborn home, Rev. Challis of Fairfax officiating. His two brothers, Charles H., of Lamar, Kansas, and Prof. Herbert, with his wife, of Columbus, Ohio, were present during the last days of his illness, and they, with a niece, Mrs. Chas. Read, of Troy Mills, were present at the funeral.
