Description	:	The gravestone for George and his wife was in the cemetery when the WPA did their reading. However, I have never been able to find the stone. George was the oldest son of John and Catharine (Layman) McCormack. John and Catharine McCormack were married on September 19, 1830, in Allegany County, Maryland. Their second son, John L., was born in 1833. When Catharine was pregnant with their third son James, her husband, John, left the family and moved to Mt. Vernon, Ohio. John and Catharine McCormack were married on September 19, 1830, in Allegany County, Maryland. Their second son, John L., was born in 1833. When Catharine was pregnant with their third son James, her husband, John, left the family and moved to Mt. Vernon, Ohio. George was raised by his grandparents, James and Alice (Alcy) McCormack, in Allegany County. Catharine and her two youngest sons, John L. and James, went to live with her parents, George and Mary Layman, also in Allegany County. Catharine was later remarried to James Smalley. Eventually all three of the brothers made their way to Wapello County. George and his brother John L. are both buried here in the Agency Cemetery, and their brother James L. and some of his family are buried in Round Point Cemetery. The brothers' father, John McCormack, was found murdered in his ironmonger's shop in Mt. Vernon, Ohio, on February 5, 1875. According to George's estate in Wapello County, he also had a daughter L.L. Hesen, who was already deseased when he died. George and Nancy's daughter was Rebecca, who married Elsworth Hesen on October 21, 1885, in Wapello County. Rebecca's portion of the estate's proceeds went to her sons, George and Otis Hesen of Baltimore, Maryland. The estate disbursement sheet showed George's date of birth as 09-18-1886 and Otis's date of birth as 09-14-1889.
