Description	:	Last Rites Held Saturday for George Melber, Sr. Funeral services for George Melber, Sr., 9, were held Saturday, December 17 at the Reck Funeral Home. The Rev. Richard Moberly conducted the services. Interment was made at Howell cemetery, north of Miller. Pallbearers were Glen Ross, George Esoph, William Rediger, William Schwartz, Henry Hargens and George Escherhausen. Melber died Wednesday at St. John's hospital in Huron where he had been a patient since the previous day when he had suffered a severe stroke. He was born in Wirettenberg, Germany on June 15, 1881. He emigrated to the United States as a young man and settled in Wisconsin. Later he moved to Orient and was married to Ursula Lieske on August 15, 1910. They made their home in Montana on a homestead until in June 1915 when they returned to South Dakota and took up farming. In 1929 they purchased a farm north of St. Lawrence where thy remained until 1951 when they retired and moved to Miller. Surviving are his wife: seven daughters, Mrs. Philip Schwartz, Mrs. Everett Porter Mrs. Alvin Nissen and Mrs. Robert Templeton, all of Miller, Mrs. Robert Estes, Webster, Mrs. Charles Love, Huron, Mrs. Homer Reddix, Sioux City; two sons, George, Jr., St. Lawrence and Lloyd, Huron. There are 15 grandchildren.
