A colorful pioneer to the last, Mr.Miller was talking with his physician about fishing when stricken. Despite his extreme age, Mr.Miller had been comparatively active in recent years. He lived at the old Miller home at 1683 Victoria Avenue, Highland, with his wife, Elinorah Hancock Miller. They would have celebrated their seventy-second wedding anniversery next Aug.31 and wheere probably San Bernardino County's longest married couple. WIFE NOTED PIONEER Mrs Miller has resided in the San Bernardino area even longer than her husband. She came across the plains in a covered wagon, reachin San Bernardino in 1854. Mr. Miller, a mere boy at the time drove an ox team to San Bernardino in 1862. Mr.Miller was born, Feb.11,1850 in Indian Territory(now Oklahoma) the son of George Miller, who served as bishop of the Mormon church. On the trek westward of the Mormon's to Utah, the elder Miller quarreled with Brigham Young and other leaders of the church. They left the party and went south into Indian territory to establish his home. In documents which were found by his son in comparatively recent years, the elder Miller charged that Brigham Young's triggermen attempted to kill him when he broke away from the party. ESTABLISHED FARM In his youth in the San Bernardino valley, Mr.Miller was employed by James Walker, one of the noted settlers and when still in his teens joined a posse of white men who went to war on Indian marauders to avenge an attack on the settlers and their families... He was noted not only as a hunter, but also as a fisherman. He is credited with killing the last grizzly bear killed in the San Bernardino Mountains. One of the first presidents of the San Bernardino Pioneer society, Mr.Miller had been long active in that orginization. He was a prominent Mason, being the oldest member in the area. In additionhe was a member of the I.O.O.F. Surviving besides his widow are two daughters, Mrs.Ida A.Lamb of Highland and Mrs.Mary C.Burgess of Los Angeles; two sons Charles Miller of Los Angeles and W.F.Miller of Highland;four grandchildren, GraceNeeley, Myrtle Mason, Lavon Griffin and James Lamb.
