Born Dec. 17, 1920 near Bellevue, Iowa, George was the son of Elmer and Amelia Kieffer Eganhouse. he received his education in Bellevue, where he graduated from St. Joseph's Catholic School. As a young man, George farmed. In 1943 he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard and was discharged in 1946. After his discharge, George and his brother Vernon operated a limestone crushing and spreading business north of Oxford Junction. On May 31, 1948, he married Mary Louise Willman in Stone City. The couple lived in Hiawatha from 1952 until 1965, when they moved to Cedar Rapids. They moved to Wyoming in the early 1970s and remained there until entering the nursing home in 1998. George worked as a heavy equipment operator, building roads all over Iowa for most of his working life. He enjoyed gardening, raising garlic, ballroom dancing and collecting and polishing stones. He had a deep love for nature and his dog Gomer.
