George was born on January 1, 1943, to Earnest and Mellozen (Dockerty) Cornelison at the Clarke County Hospital, Osceola, Iowa. George had the recognition to be the first baby of the year and was featured in the local newspaper. George and his family lived in Murray, Iowa at the time of his birth but later moved to Osceola when George was 10. He resided in Osceola until the age of 60 when he moved to Carlisle to be closer to his family. George worked at the Lyric Theater for many years then Thayer's Cleaning Service before retiring. George had a great love of animals, he had many animals that lived much longer than their life expectancy. It was said if you lived with George the way he loved his animals, you would not want to die either. George cared for everyone, he was kind, never missed sending a birthday, anniversary, or Christmas card to his family and friends. Just recently he had talked to Leanna about getting his Christmas cards out. He had comprised a list and had 60 names on that list. George was very gracious and polite. In the past few years George had developed chronic lung problems, and was transported numerous occasions to Iowa Lutheran Hospital by the Carlisle Rescue Unit. Recently a nurse at the Iowa Lutheran Hospital shared with Leanna that George was the most kindness and polite person that she had ever met. She shared that all the nurses fought over George to take care of him when he came into the hospital. George was extremely protective of his family members, one funny story has been told of George coming upon a couple of young boys giving his nephew a bad time, George jumped off his bike, and appeared to get into a Karate stance. The boys took off, little did they know that George had no knowledge of karate, and had probably seen it on TV. Well it worked. George loved to ride his moped, when living in Osceola he was travel the back roads to Murray, stopping by to check the family plot at the cemetery then on to visit his friends in town. Riding never stopped when he moved to Carlisle, he would ride over to Avon and go by his Carlisle friend's homes a beep his horn as he zipped by. It was amazing how many miles George would put on this moped before he would trade it off. He had many friends in Osceola as well as Carlisle, they were always commenting to Leanna what a great guy George was and how much they loved him. Family left to cherish his memory include his sister, Leanna Barvinek, of Des Moines, half brother, Delmar Cornelison of Quincy MA, nephews, Darren (Jeanene) Chipp and Daniel (Marj) Chipp all from Latimer, IA, niece Deena (Neil) Swyers from Salem, MO, and brother-in-law Frank Barvinek of Des Moines. Extended family members also surviving are Paula (Mark) Randall of Quincy, MA, Lori (Kyle) Linn of Fayetteville AK, Susan (Tom) Mass of Ankeny, IA and Joel (Cheryl) Barvinek of Lake Wylie, SC. George joins his family in Heaven; father and mother, Earnie and Mellie, sisters, Mary Jane and Carolyn Wright, brothers, Merrill Dean, and Galen LaVere Cornelison, and niece Deanna Lynn Chipp.
