Description	:	Grinnell Herald-Register January 18, 1965 George R. Rasp, age 75 of Newburg, died at a Grinnell Hospital early Sunday morning following poor health the last year. He was born February 19, 1889, in Hickory Grove township, Jasper county, Iowa, the son of George and Lucy Spellman Rasp. He attended the local Newburg schools. On August 26, 1911, he married Rilla Adams at Rock Island, Illinois. Soon after their marriage, they began farming in the Newburg area and seven years following their marriage, they moved to the Rasp family home farm, where they continued farming for 25 years. He was born February 19, 1889, in Hickory Grove township, Jasper county, Iowa, the son of George and Lucy Spellman Rasp. He attended the local Newburg schools. On August 26, 1911, he married Rilla Adams at Rock Island, Illinois. Soon after their marriage, they began farming in the Newburg area and seven years following their marriage, they moved to the Rasp family home farm, where they continued farming for 25 years. In 1942, Mr. Rasp retired and he and his wife moved to the present home in Newburg. He is survived by his widow Rilla, at their home in Newburg; two sisters, Mrs. Nona Rutherford and Mrs. Ella Breeden, both of Grinnell; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his younger sister, Mrs. Tilla Walker, and one half-brother, A. L. Spellman, on December 28, 1963. Mr. Rasp had been active in support of the Newburg Congregational Church and Newburg community activities. He had served on the board of directors of the Newburg Elevator for several years. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard F. Hempenius, pastor of the Newburg United Church of Christ, officiating. Vocal music will be provided by Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Palmer and organist will be Mrs. Donald J. Renaud. Casket bearers will be Kenneth Iske, Harvey Rasmussen, LaVern Bennington, Harold McCulloch, Robert Mason, and Dean Douglas. Assisting with the flowers will be Mrs. Kenneth Adams and Mrs. Dean Douglas. Burial will be in Prairie View Cemetery at Gilman. Added 16 Mar 2018
