A terrible accident occurred Saturday evening near Frankfort, W. Va. Mr. George R. Duckworth, while preparing to kill and egg eating dog, accidentally shot his own head off. The dog had been tied to the leg of the stove in the kitchen and when Mr. Duckworth went in to supper and was informed of the animals actions, he took down his double-barreled shotgun and placed a shell in it. No one was in the room at the time except two littl grandchildren. Mr. Duckworth's daughter-in-law having gone to the barn after her husband while Mr. Duckworth was preparing to kill the dog. The dog crouched under the stove and in reaching down to pull the dog out Mr. Duckworth slid the gun along the floor, holding the barrel in his hand. Just as the barren came in line with his head the gun struck against something and was discharged. The charge blew off the whole top of Mr. Duckworth's head and scattered his brains all over the room. He fell with his leg across his little one-year-old grandchild and his body had to be raised by his daughter-in-law, who found him on the floor, before the child could be taken up. The little one's clothing was covered with blood. Mr. Duckworth formerly lived in Lonaconing, this county, and moved to Frankfort about three years ago. He was 58 years old and leaves three sons., George W. Duckworth, with whom he lived; Heyward and William Duckworth, Lonaconing, and one daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Ward, Westernport, Md. A year ago his house was burned and about three months ago a little grandson set fire to and destroyed his barn while lighting corn silk cigarettes. The remains of Mr. Duckworth were brought to Steins undertaking establishment yesterday at noon and this morning were taken to Lonaconing for burial.
