| Description | : | George Read, (4th), son of George Read (3d), of Delaware, was born at New Castle, 16th Oct., 1812; married, in 1844, Susan Chapman, of Virginia, and died in August, 1859, forty-seven years of age at Rossmere, near Columbia, Arkansas. He showed early aptitude for business, and was trained in the counting house of an eminent firm in Baltimore. In company with his grandfather, George Read, (2d,) he purchased a cotton plantation of several thousand acres in Chicot County, Arkansas, on the borders of Louisiana, which grew under his masterly touch into one of the great representative plantations of the South....
