Description	:	George was the eldest son of Edward James Jordan & Martha Ann Jennings. When he was 16 years old his parents moved their family from Tennessee to Lonoke County, Arkansas, about 1860. His mother Martha passed away in 1862, after which he and his father Edward joined the war for the South. George served as a spy for the South. Read More	George was the eldest son of Edward James Jordan & Martha Ann Jennings. When he was 16 years old his parents moved their family from Tennessee to Lonoke County, Arkansas, about 1860. His mother Martha passed away in 1862, after which he and his father Edward joined the war for the South. George served as a spy for the South. On one of his missions, he was captured by the Yankees and was sentenced to be shot at sunrise the following morning. For many generations the Jordans have been involved with the Masons. This proved fortuitous for George. During the night, George, with hopes that the Yankee guard was also a Mason, made the symbol of the Masons from blades of grass. This strategy worked, and the Yankee guard set him free. He supposedly swam the Mississippi River to escape the Yankee encampment. During the war, George met or was in contact with Hezikiah H. Elliott, and also met his daughter, Beunavista Manerva Elliott. They were married in the late 1860's or early 1870's. George served in the Civil War under Col. Randolph Mills, who made such an impression on him that they named their first born son Randolph Mills Jordan (My Great-grandfather).
