Read More	GEORGE 'PAPA' DUNLAP - Tuesday - December 2, 1997 On Nov. 27, 1997, George "Papa" Dunlap, 83, of Chelan, rejoined his late beloved wife, Pearl, to be as one in "Everlasting Love." George was born the son of Doak and Effie (Burnett) Dunlap on March 30, 1914, in Pomeroy, the second of six with three brothers and two sisters. He grew up in Portland, Ore., and later served in the U.S. Army. While stationed at Fort Worden, Wash., he met Pearl Lindsay ("Nana"), who he married on Oct. 2, 1935. They lived in Seattle raising their family, where George worked as a welding instructor for Todd Shipyards and later served as a sergeant in the Seattle Police Reserves. In 1965, George and Pearl moved to Chelan where George managed the Chelan-Manson Growers Co-op Store in Manson. Following the store's closure, he remained in the employment of Blue Chelan where he happily worked for 30 years until he retired in 1995 at the age of 81. "Papa" was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting, fishing and horses. Photography and dancing filled his spare time. He was a member of the Chelan Rustlers, the Chelan Eagles, Aerie No. 2218, and a member of the National Rifle Association. He received great joy in participating in these activities, and working with youngsters of all ages. A well-known and respected man in his community, numerous surrogate family members cherished and embraced him as their "Grandpa" and as their "Uncle George." To his grandchildren he was their beloved "Papa." George lived his life with a smile on his face and a joke in his mind, always compassionate to those around him. A selfless man, he loved and was loved by many. He is survived by two daughters, Madaline Bishop, Mountlake Terrace, and Caroline Petosa, Edmonds; one son, Bill Dunlap, Coulee Dam; two sisters, Elizabeth Handel, Chelan, and Barbara Charlebois, Camarillo, Calif.; one brother, William C. Dunlap, Mountlake Terrace; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; seven nieces; and two nephews. He also leaves his much-loved uncle, Hubert Burnett of Chelan, plus numerous extended family members of the community. He was preceded in death by his wife and two brothers. Services are under the direction of Precht Rose Chapel, Chelan.
