Description	:	George Russell Puckett, 84, of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, formerly of Rison, Arkansas, died Saturday, December 8, 2001, at JRMC, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Born in the Macedonia community near Rison on October 19, 1917, he was a son of the late George Wilson and Donnie Bell Puckett. His life held many achievements for him. D. diploma from Rison School. He... Read More	George Russell Puckett, 84, of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, formerly of Rison, Arkansas, died Saturday, December 8, 2001, at JRMC, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Born in the Macedonia community near Rison on October 19, 1917, he was a son of the late George Wilson and Donnie Bell Puckett. His life held many achievements for him. In his young years, he helped his father, a farmer. At age 16, his mother was stricken with a stroke and he quit school to take care of her. Following tenure in the U. S. Army, he received a G. E. D. diploma from Rison School. He received training in Dallas, Texas, to become a Greyhound bus driver. Later he was employed with St. Louis Southwester Transportation (Cotton Belt), retiring at age 57, because of ill health. On 1991, he was ordained as a Minister of Music, serving as Music Minister at Shepherd Hill Baptist Church, Shannon Road Baptist Church and interim Musical Minister at Second Baptist Church in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Mr. Puckett received his music education at Stamps Music School in Dallas, Texas, and he taught many schools of music. He san with the "Home State Quartet" Cleveland County Quartet" and the Blendsmen Quartet." With the " Home state Quartet" he appeared on Channel 7, when it was located in Pine Bluff. He then sang with "Blendsmen," appearing at the National Quartet Convention in Shreveport, Louisiana, and Memphis, Tennessee, and also at the "Springdale, Arkansas, until recently he sang with the "Breakfast Singers" at the Pine Bluff Men's Prayer Breakfast held at the First Methodist Church. He was a former member of the Arkansas State Horse Show Association, winning many trophies in the "Slow Gaited Class" with the Sheridan riding Glub. Mr. Puckett was a 32nd Degree Mason. He was a member of the Pine Bluff Masonic Lodge #69, where he had served as Worshipful Master. He also had served as Worshipful Master at Culpepper Masonic Lodge in Rison. He had an honorary membership at Grapevine Lodge. He was a member of the American Legion, having served in military with the U. S. Army in Foreign duty during World War II, in the Philippines at General Hospital on Letee' Island. He held the honor of "Expert Rifleman" badge, along with other ribbons of honor. There is a stone in the "Walk of Honor" with his Army records at the "Nimitz Walk of Honor" WWII Pacific Theatre. Military service was at Fredericksburg, Texas. Until his recent ill health, he was employed part-time at the Mad Butcher Co. offices in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. He was a member of Greenlee Baptist Church at Pine Bluff, where he served as interim and Associate Music Director. Other than his parents, Mr. Puckett was also preceded in death by two brother; Jewel Puckett, and Johnny Puckett, three sisters; Grace Keith, Ola Mae Herrington and Lola Bell Nixon, two daughters; infant Donna Annette Puckett and Barbara Puckett Kolb. Survivors include his wife; Mary Ellan O'Cain Puckett; five sons; Rev. James R. Puckett of Norman, Oklahoma, Roy Puckett and Ron Puckett both of Pine Bluff, Jim Woodfield of Greenville, Tex., and Ken Woodfield of Evans, Georgia, one daughter; Linda Ellan Maroney of Mobile, Alabama, one sister; Marjorie Johnson of Calico Rock, Arkansas, (who with Mr. Puckett were the senior members of the annual Puckett reunion of the Macedonia Community near Rison), 21 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, December 10, 2001, at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church near Rison, conducted by Adam Hughes and assisted by Bobby Hartsfield and Jackie Richardson. Burial was in Macedonia Cemetery by Buie Funeral Home of Rison, Arkansas. -------------------------
