Description	:	George Zulch and Amelia Dimbere immigrated to the United States in the mid 1850’s. Their oldest daughter Mary Zulch, my great grandmother, was born February 12th 1856 in Detroit. A son Frederick was born the following year. Daughter Minnie was born in the spring of 1861. In the summer of 1862, George Zulch was working as a laborer in Detroit. George Zulch, now 34 years old, enlisted in Company A on August 14th 1862. A second son, whom they named George was born into the family. Jump ahead to July 1st 1863 at Gettysburg Pennsylvania. George is listed as missing in action during the first day of the infamous Battle of Gettysburg, but in fact he was seriously wounded and unable to communicate. He suffered four separate wounds. A rifle ball went through his right ankle. Another one went through his right upper thigh and exited his left buttocks shattering his hip. He had a forehead wound as well, not serious enough to warrant anything on his disability pension, but which caused severe headaches later in life. My Mom once told me he suffered mental problems due to lead poisoning from the bullets. George Zulch returned to his regiment in October, only four months after his injuries, but field duty was impossible. In February 1864, he was transferred to the Veterans Reserve Corp. He was discharged from guard duty at the Elmira Prison in New York in November 1865. The Zulch's changed their name to Seeley and resided at 912 Webster St. One person suggested that his name was recorded as Celce when he was wounded in battle and unable to speak, and the American sounding Seeley may have been derived from that misspelling.
