JEFFERSON HERALD - Thursday, August 17th, 1944 - George Sonnie, 74, died Thursday, Aug. 10, at Jefferson, only four days after he celebrated his birthday. Mr. Sonnie was born Aug. 6, 1870, in Denmark, coming to this country in 1890, and to Greene county in 1904. His first home in America was in Illinois; in Greene county he settled on a farm west of Jefferson. He was married March 21, 1905, in Granville, IL, to Miss Kate Mertz, who preceded him in death April 3, 1906, shortly after they came to this county. They were the parents of a daughter, Isabelle. Mr. Sonnie retired from the farm in 1920 and came to Jefferson, which was his home until his death. Besides his daughter, he leaves two sisters, Mrs. Rikke Christiansen of Des Moines and Mrs. Carrie Christiansen of Atlantic, and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service was at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, at the Slininger chapel in Jefferson, the Rev. E.L. Marousek of the Presbyterian church in charge. Interment was in the Jefferson cemetery. Pallbearers were August Schulte, Judd Johnson, Ingvard Jorgensen, William Ablett, Frank Blodgett and Robert Maurice. Mrs. W.E.S. Hutcheon furnished the music, singing "In the Garden" and "No Night There." She was accompanied by Mrs. C.B. Evers. Among the relatives and friends who came for the funeral of George Sonnie were Mrs. Rikke Christensen of Des Moines; Mrs. Carrie Christensen of Atlantic; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Jaynes and three children from Audubon; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Christensen and Ross of Cumberland, Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Peterson of Cedar Falls, Mrs. George Hansen of New Hartford, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Christensen, Cleo and Albert and Mr and Mrs. Lester Christensen, all of Bayard, Mr. and Mrs. Ingvord Jorgensen, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Mount, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Luhman, Bill Ablett and Will Cain, all of Lohrville, and Mr. and Mrs. Victor Lyons and Miss Gertrude Lyons of Yale.
