His parents, Chauncey M. Stebbins and Sophia Rice Stebbins, moved to Ionia Co. in 1844, when deceased was four years old, and settled in Eaton township upon the farm which later became the Inman property and on which the State Reformatory now stands. His parents, Chauncey M. Stebbins and Sophia Rice Stebbins, moved to Ionia Co. in 1844, when deceased was four years old, and settled in Eaton township upon the farm which later became the Inman property and on which the State Reformatory now stands. Here he spent his early life. He was one of a family of eight children, three of whom survive him., Seymour M. Stebbins of Ionia, Chester H. Stebbins of Lakeview, and Mrs. Julia A. Ross of Easton, two brothers and three sisters having passed on before. He was married o February 26, 1862 to Eleanor R. Hardenburg. To them were born four children, Mrs. E. R. Rathbun, Perry H. Stebbins, and Mrs. A. L. Harris. A daughter, Hattie, their firstborn died in infancy. He also leaves four grandchildren. They settled on the present farm home in 1871, where they spent forty years together, with their children near them, previous to that time having owned the old homestead of his father’s west of Ionia. Mr. Stebbins was one of the pioneers of the county and he with his wife were members of the Ionia County Pioneer Society. He became converted in his early manhood and was a faithful and consistent member of the Methodist church. He was an honored and respected neighbor in his community, a loving companion, and a kind father, and the memories of his life will be an inspiration to those of his kin who are left. The funeral was attended from the residence in Easton at one o’clock on Friday, Rev. A. B. Johnson of Hesperia officiating, assisted by the pastor, Rev. Jerreitt of Orleans. Interment was in Easton cemetery.
