Millard, at the time of his death. per history4sure (#46997739) - [living with his daughter Grace Selzer in 1920] LE MARS SEMI-WEEKLY SENTINEL, Le Mars, Iowa, Friday, October 20, 1922: Was Pioneer Blacksmith George Stillman Benton was born at Deerfield, Steel county, Minnesota, October 15, 1858, only son of Mr. and Mrs. William Benton. He passed away at Berkeley, California, October 15, 1922, aged 64 years. A portion of his childhood was spent in Connecticut. He came with his parents to Plymouth county, Iowa, in 1871, and assisted in gaining a home in the new country. In April of 1881 he was united in marriage with Maria Kidd and to this union one child was born, Grace Benton, of Berkeley. His wife died in January, 1892. In 1897 he married Maude Millard, who survives him. To this union five children were born: Mrs. Mildred Pedigo, of Yuma, Colo., Mrs. Bernice Johnson, of Wetonka, S.D., Helen, Horace and Ross, who reside at home. He also leaves four grand children. During his early life he followed the occupation of farming but later turned his attention to blacksmith, at which he was very proficient. He conducted a smithy at Dalton for many years. Most of his life was spent in Plymouth county, Iowa. He resided in Aberdeen, S. D. a few years, going from there to Berkely two years ago. He was a kind husband, an indulgent father, and his patience and cheerfulness throughout the past year of illness and pain were a lesson to all near him. The body was brought to Ireton, Iowa, Thursday for interment.
