His funeral will be held Friday, May 10, at 2: 00 p.m. at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Hoven with Fr. William Osborn officiating. Burial will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery under the direction of Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg. A Wake Service will be held Thursday Evening at 8:30 at the church. George was born Oct. 5, 1904, at Tolstoy, SD to George G. and Anna Marie (Schaefer) Schmidt on a farm northwest of Tolstoy. He attended rural school and St. Bernard's Catholic School. He lived on this farm until he retired to Hoven in 1966. He married Lucille Lunders on Sept. 9, 1936 at St. Anthony's. He was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and the Senior Citizens of Hoven. He is survived by his wife, Lucille, Hoven; nine daughters, Mrs. Frank (Marlyn Grismer, Bowdle, SD; Mrs. Joe (Betty) Geler, Bowle; Mrs. LeRoy (Sharon) Mardian, Fremont, CA; Mrs. Marven (Karen) Steensen, Elko, NE; Mrs. Leonard (Rose Marie) Schatz, Gettysburg; Mrs. Gerald (Elaine) Kosters, Selby, SD; Mrs. Donald (Evelyn) Sautner, Hoven; Mrs. Jim (Clara) Krogmann, Omaha, NE; Mrs. Rick (Imelda) Simon, Lebanon, SD; two sons, Raymond Schmidt, Aberdeen, SD; and Eugene R. Schmidt, Hoven; 36 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; one brother, Ben Schmidt, Selby Nursing Home; two sisters, Mary Hackle, Hoven, and Hilda Lunders, Hoven. He was preceded in death by his parents, one granddaughter, two brothers, and three sisters. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Lonnie Simon, Mark Schatz, Brian Sautner, Time Geler, Allen Grismer, and Jason Kisters. Organist is Alice Simon and the Church Choir will sing. Lector will be Jeff Kosters. Alter boys are Chad Sautner, Darrin Simon and Jerome Kosters.
