Read More	From the Frederick News, Dec. 26, 1902: George T. Whipp, one of the most widely known citizens of this county, died at his home in Jefferson yesterday morning, aged 85 years. Mr. Whipp was born near Carroll's Manor, March 8, 1818. His lifelong residence here, his excellent character and active interest and generosity in all enterprises with which he was connected, made him universally known and highly esteemed. Aside from his agricultural interests he was connected with a number of institutions, in which he always took a leading part. He was one of the incorporators and builders of the Frederick and Jefferson pike, and for the past twenty years president of the Mutual Fire Insurance Company of Middletown. As a politician he was a Whig in early life, but for many years past has been a staunch Republican. In 1859 he was elected county commissioner, entirely outside of any effort of his own, and was re-elected in 1873, serving in all four years. For two years he was a member of the board of charities and corrections for Montevue Hospital, near Frederick. In church work he aided materially the house of worship of the Lutherans at Burkittsville, and helped to put up the fine church of that denomination in Jefferson, in both instances serving on the building committee. Mr. Whipp was twice married, on October 4, 1838, to Lydia Routzahn, daughter of George Routzahn. She died in 1849, leaving five children. In 1850 Mr. Whipp married Miss Mary A.B. Maught. She died January 16, 1893, leaving six children. Mr. Whipp's surviving children are: David M., near Burkittsville; Lewis O., a successful merchant of Jefferson, who has also been postmaster for some years; Mrs. D.B.D. Smeltzer of Iola, Kan., and Mrs. Sarah E. Friday, residing near Jefferson. Her husband. Rev. J.M. Friday, was murdered and robbed near Harper's Ferry some years ago, and his assassin was never detected; Mrs. Douglas Hargett, East Church street, and Miss Cora Whip, at home. Mr. Whipp's funeral will take place tomorrow noon from the Lutheran church at Jefferson.
