His quiet, gentle presence will be missed by his family and many friends. George was born in Sacramento to Jovanina and Mate Buljan. Read More	George Thomas Buljan Resident of Saratoga June 26, 1923-Mar. 11, 2010 After a wonderful life, George Buljan passed away peacefully at home with his loving family by his side. His quiet, gentle presence will be missed by his family and many friends. George was born in Sacramento to Jovanina and Mate Buljan. He joined the Army Air Corps and served in World War II, flying a P-47 in the Pacific. While in the service, he met the love of his life, Helen in North Carolina. They were married for 63 years. George and Helen returned to Sacramento and George began a 40-year career with the J. C. Penny Co. He was the store manager in Tulare and in San Jose at the Westgate and Eastridge J. C. Penny stores. Under his management, the Westgate store became the number one store in the United States. George was very active in the community. He served as president of the Saratoga Rotary, president of the Board of Directors of Good Samaritan Hospital, Served on the Board of fellows of Santa Clara University, was president of La Rinconada Country Club and was a member of the San Jose Chamber of Commerce. He spent many happy hours golfing with his buddies at La Rinconada Country Club and at Lake Tahoe with his family and friends. George is survived by his wife, Helen, his children, Nancy (Mark) Anderson and G. Thomas Buljan, Jr. He delighted his grandchildren, Katie (John) Hogan, Christopher (Wendy) Anderson and Courtney Buljan and was a beloved "great granddaddy" to Audrey and Jack Hogan. Friends are invited to a celebration of George's life. It will be held at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 13601 Saratoga Avenue, Saratoga on Saturday, March 20, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. A reception will follow at St. Andrew's. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in George's name to the St. Andrew's Memorial Fund, Hospice of the Valley or to a charity of your choice.
