Description	:	George Walter Velenovsky , 84, of Annapolis, who retired as chairman of the board of Annapolis Bank and Trust, died of a heart attack Jan. 17 at Anne Arundel Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Mr. Velenovsky started at the bank in August 1929 as a runner, which included the tasks of messenger, posting the savings ledger and other miscellaneous duties. Read More	George Walter Velenovsky , 84, of Annapolis, who retired as chairman of the board of Annapolis Bank and Trust, died of a heart attack Jan. 17 at Anne Arundel Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Mr. Velenovsky started at the bank in August 1929 as a runner, which included the tasks of messenger, posting the savings ledger and other miscellaneous duties. He worked at the bank until March 1982, except for 15 months spent in the Army during World War II. Over the years he was savings teller, paying and receiving teller and note teller and worked in various other departments. He served in every officer category from assistant treasurer and assistant secretary to chairman of the board and chief executive officer. Born in Baltimore, he completed numerous courses conducted by the American Institute of Banking and for a number of years taught the AIB course, "Principles of Bank Operations," to the employees of what was then AB&T's three branches. He received two diplomas from the Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University, one in commercial banking in 1950 and another in investments in 1957. Mr. Velenovsky was a member of the board of directors of Baltimore Gas and Electric Co. and Mercantile Bankshares Corp. and served on the Board of Managers of Anne Arundel Medical Center. He held various offices in Group 4 of the Maryland Bankers Association and was on a number of committees of the Maryland Bankers Association. A community activist, he was president and director of the Greater Annapolis Chamber of Commerce, the Anne Arundel Trade Council and the former Anne Arundel County Community Chest Association. He also was president and a director of the Annapolis Civitan Club and the Annapolitan Club. Mr. Velenovsky was a member of the Urban Renewal Authority of Annapolis and the Board of Governors of the Annapolis Yacht Club. Surviving are his wife of 55 years, May Roelle Velenovsky ; two daughters, Joanne Prout of Quebec, Canada, and Barbara Bodnar of Severn; one son, George Velenovsky Jr. of Denver; two sisters, Eleanora and Leoba Velenovsky , both of Annapolis; one brother, Edwin Velenovsky of Waynesboro, Va.; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. A memorial Mass will be said at 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Arrangements are by John M. Taylor Funeral Home.
