Born in Blaney, he was the son of the late Joseph and Rebecca Aldrich Nettles. Mr. Nettles was a retired logger and former owner/operator of Nettles Grocery. He was a member of Blaney Baptist Church and a US Army World War II veteran having served in the European Theatre. Mr. Nettles was an avid fisherman and gardener. Surviving are daughter, Phyllis N. Mitchell of Elgin; son's, Joel Nettles (Elizabeth) of Elgin and Gregory Nettles (Angela) of Camden; 8 grandchildren; half sister, Ruby Brown, of North. He was predeceased by his wife, Pearl Goff Nettles, sisters, Alma Goff, Emily Kirkland, and Willie Mae Wooten; brother, Irby Nettles. Mr. Nettles grandsons, Scott Mitchell, Brian Nettles, Aaron Nettles, Matthew Nettles, Phillip Nettles and Dustin Nettles will serve as active pallbearers. Mr. Nettles granddaughters, Amanda Mitchell and Emily Nettles will serve as honorary pallbearers. Vic Marthers and Bill Hyman will also serve as honorary pallbearers.
