Mr. Capper had lived in 11 states, and came to Gladwin county 13 years ago. He had a large circle of friends, by whom he was highly esteemed. Mr. Capper was born in Steuben county, Virginia, July 31, 1829. Oct. 27, 1854, he was married in Indiana to Harriet Boor, who departed this life Jan. 11, 1896, in Defiance, O., and the greater portion of the time since then he has made his home with his adopted son, Hollis, where he had the best of care. To the union was born five daughters, of whom four are living, viz: Mrs Lurch of Toledo, Mrs Calla Brown of Paulding county, O., Mrs Amanda Young of Toledo, Mrs. Ella Vaughn of Defiance, O. He was also one of a family of 11 brothers and three sisters, of whom one brother and one sister are living. He was one of seven brothers to serve in the Civil war. After the war he was occupied in farming until his declining years. Mr. Capper was a life long and ardent Republican, always taking an active part in political affairs, and voting at every presidential election from the time he became a voter, except the last. Previous to his removal to Gladwin county he had been a member of the United Brethren church, but on the organization of the Free Methodist church near Sherman, near his home, he became a supporter of that organization, of which he was a member the last eight years. He had remarkable endurance for a man of his age. During the last five months, however, he became very feeble, and suffered much, but all without a murmur or word of complaint. The funeral will take place today (Thursday) at the Free Methodist church, Sherman, Rev James Hygema officiating. The body will be taken to Defiance, O., for interment beside his late companion. Defiance Crescent News Mon. 4 Oct 1915 , Defiance, OH George W Capper, son of Gabriel and Ellen Capper was born on July 30, 1829, and died at his home in Gladwin, Michigan, September 28, 1915, aged 86 years, 1 month, and 28 days. He was born in Green Brier Co, West Virginia and came to Ohio with his parents at the age of ten. He was a resident of Defiance for about thirty-eight years. The Capper family has one of the most noted military records of any family in Ohio. The father of the deceased was noted for his deeds of heroism in the war of 1812. Mr Capper was one of eight brothers who fought in the Union Army during the Civil War and one brother served in the Mexican War. In 1864 he enlisted in Company C 25th Ohio Volunteer infantry, fighting which he experienced during the term of service was from Hilton Head to Honey Hill. He was seriously wounded at Honey Hill, South Carolina, and was confined in the hospital at Hilton Head for several weeks. In 1853 he was united in holy matrimony to Miss Harriet Boor who preceded her husband to the spirit world about nineteen years ago. This union was blessed with five daughters, one daughter has preceded the father in death. Four daughters and one adopted son are left to mourn the loss of a kind father. they are Mrs L P Lerch and Mrs Chas Young of Toledo; Mrs Jessie Brown of Cecil; Mrs S M Vaughn of this city and Mr Hollis Capper of Gladwin, Michigan, who was adopted into the family at the age of three months and has expressed his appreciation of his foster father by caring for him during the years when affliction and old age rendered it impossible for him to care for himself. The deceased is also survived by twenty-four grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. Mr Capper accepted the Christian faith in early manhood but later he found Christ in all his fullness. He joined the United Bretheran Church a number of years ago, but when he moved to Michigan in 1902 he joined the Free Methodist church. He was a faithful, consistent charter member and a devout servant of Christ. The end of his long early pilgrimage terminated last Tuesday but he died with triumphant faith in Christ and has gone to his final reward. We take this means of expressing our heartfelt thanks for kindness and sympathy extended us during the bereavement of our father. THE CHILDREN
