Description	:	George moved to DeKalb county, Illinois as a young boy with his parents and grew to manhood there. He married Amelia Box on 20 Sep 1866 in Earlville, Delaware county, Iowa. He farmed in Delaware county and later entered the lumber business and machinery business in Earlville. In 1880 he was a hotel keeper in Dyersville, Dubuque county, Iowa and he continued with this profession after removing to Bazille Mills, Knox county, NE. Read More	George moved to DeKalb county, Illinois as a young boy with his parents and grew to manhood there. He married Amelia Box on 20 Sep 1866 in Earlville, Delaware county, Iowa. He farmed in Delaware county and later entered the lumber business and machinery business in Earlville. In 1880 he was a hotel keeper in Dyersville, Dubuque county, Iowa and he continued with this profession after removing to Bazille Mills, Knox county, NE. He also served as postmaster there for four years. After living on and improving his tree claim west of Creighton for one summer, he moved back to Delaware county, Iowa around 1889 and managed the Greely House for two years. In 1891, Mr Harper and his family returned to Nebraska. He engaged in the windmill business in Plainview, NE and purchasing land on the College addition to the town, he helped to build his residence in October of 1892. Surrounding this house was one of the finest groves in northeastern Nebraska. Here, Mr Harper lived out the rest of his days. George and Amelia had five children: Nettie (married George W. Lane and died in 1941 in Randolph, AZ), Harry Leroy (pharmacist), George Leslie (deputy sheriff in 1912 at Deadwood, SD), Joseph Earle (pharmacist), and Ralph Dyer(miner in Deadwood, SD in 1912). George W. Harper was a member of I.O.O.F., Modern Woodmen of America and I.O.G.T. lodges and Rebeckah degree.
