George's Obituary from "Ottumwa Courier," of December 26, 1936: Service For George Long Held Today -- Funeral services for George Long, 82, who died at his home three miles northwest of Ottumwa at 1 p.m. Thursday, were held today at 2 p.m. in the Lester Jay funeral home, conducted by the Rev. C. A. Field. Burial was in the Agency cemetery. For sixty-seven years a Wapello county farmer, Mr. Long was born in Rushville, Ind. January 17, 1855. He came to Iowa in 1869, settling on a farm in Dahlonega township, since then he had been an active farmer. He was married to Mary C. Miller February 8, 1877. The Longs had lived in the present home twenty-four years. Surviving are his wife, Mary C. Long; one daughter, Mrs. Hervey Smith of Ottumwa route 1; two sons, Homer Long of Collinsville, Ill., and M. L. Long of Des Moines; two sisters, Mrs. Mattie Weir of Spokane, Wash., and Mrs. Mae Reynard of Los Angeles, Calif.; one brother, Chester R. Long, of Omaha, Neb., and nine grandchildren.
