Description	:	Obituary, dated April 4, 1935: "George Ward Gilchrist, the only child of Norris G. and Leonia Cambron Gilchrist, was born near Knoxville, Iowa, July 15, 1895 and departed this life at the hospital in Fairfield, Iowa, on the morning of March 8, 1935, at the age of 39 years, 7 months, and 23 days. He united with the Keosauqua Methodist church, March 4, 1926 during the pastorate of the Rev. P.S. Apfel. He has been a member of the board of church trustees a number of years and continued in that capacity until his death. He was interested in Sunday school and church since early childhood. As a child, he was obedient to his parents wishes that he faithfully attend Sunday school and church. His honesty and clean habits of life are the fruits of his religious training and influence down through the years. He was interested in Bible reading and prayer and was anxious to know more about God's word. On October 10, 1929, he was united in marriage to Mable Linn. Only a short married life yet he was happy in his home and proved a faithful husband. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. No. 3 of Keosauqua, the Rebekahs of Keosauqua, Canton and Encampment of Fairfield and also of the A.M.O.S. of Oskaloosa, Iowa. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and at the time of his death he ws(sp) serving as secretary of the Van Buren county Farm Bureau Organization. He was not only a farmer, but was interested in everything pertaining to farm and for the betterment of rural life. Besides his wife and mother, he is survived by other relatives and a host of neighbors and friends. His father preceded him in death in 1919. All in all, Ward Gilchrist was an obedient son, a faithful husband, a good neighbor, a true friend and a sincere Christian. Funerl services were held from the Methodist church in Keosauqua, Sunday afternoon, March 10, at 2 o'clock in charge of the pastor, the Rev. M.E. Hayes. Interment in Purdom cemetery."
