Description	:	George Washington, the son of Rev. Otto and Marie (Greve) Engelmann, was born Feb. 22, 1913, in Pearl City, Ill. He was baptized in his father's church. The family moved to Magly, Ind., where his father pastored a church until 1925. From there the family moved to Fort Wayne, Ind. to serve at the Children's Home. He was confirmed at St. John's Reformed Church in Fort Wayne. In 1930, Rev. Engelmann accepted the call to pastor at the Immanuel Reformed Evangelical and Reformed Church in rural Schaller. From there the family moved to Fort Wayne, Ind. to serve at the Children's Home. He was confirmed at St. John's Reformed Church in Fort Wayne. In 1930, Rev. Engelmann accepted the call to pastor at the Immanuel Reformed Evangelical and Reformed Church in rural Schaller. Mr. Engelmann graduated from Storm Lake High School in 1931. Following graduation he was employed in the Storm Lake area. On March 23, 1941, he married Violet Mauser. He was drafted into the Armed Forces in the fall of 1942 where he served in the Army as a radio operator. He was in the Infantry Division in Italy during World War II. Upon receiving an honorable discharge in 1945, he returned home to farm in the Storm Lake area. He and his wife enjoyed spending the winter months in Florida until 1992. Besides farming, Mr. Engelmann was an avid promoter of the game of horseshoes. He was instrumental in organizing the local leagues and was inducted into the Iowa Horseshoe Hall of Fame in 1982. He was an active leader in his church and made serving the Lord, as well as others, a priority in life. Mr. Engelmann was also involved in many local farm organizations. George is survived by his three children: Bonnie Anderson and her husband John (Maple Plain, Minn.), Bruce Engelmann and his wife Jill (Storm Lake) and Bob Engelmann and his wife Kristen (Waterloo). He also leaves to mourn five grandchildren: Bryant (and his wife Jill), Barry (and his wife Melinda) and Brooke Engelmann, Ben and Dan Anderson; two step grandchildren, Ahren and Audrie Mondt; one step great grandchild, Jasper; one brother, Rev. Victor (and Irene) Engelmann; one sister, Lois Hess; and numerous other friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; six brothers and five sisters.
