Ish Dead Aged Citizen Passed Away At Home In This City This Morning Was A County Pioneer Came in Washington County From Ohio in 1819, Was Native of Pennsylvania This morning at 8:30 at the advanced age of eighty-two years occurred the death of George W. Ish, a resident of Washington for twenty-eight years and of Washington county since 1849. Mr. Ish had been ill only since last Monday. He became ill on that day with the grippe, which developed into pneumonia. He had not been in robust health for many years and the recent illness found him in a weakened condition and unable to make a winning fight against disease. He had been totally blind for the last seven years, and for five years before had been without the sight of one eye. Mr. Ish was born Sept. 3, 1828, in Pennsylvania, near Pittsburg. He left there with his parents when only two years old, going to Harrison county, Ohio. When he was twenty-one years of age he came to Crawfordsville this county, where he lived for five years. He lived in Ainsworth and then in Dutch Creek township for ten years. Twenty-eight years ago he moved to this city, and the family have made their home here ever since. On Oct. 5, 1858, Mr. Ish was married to Miss Mary W. Woods, near Ainsworth. The wife survives. Nine children, all daughters, are living. They are: Mrs. Almeda Leuck, of Garden City, Mo.; Mrs. Myrtle Long, of Clinton, Mo.; Mrs. Lizzie Stout, of Dean, Iowa; Mrs. Mattie Beliel, of this city; Mrs. Jennie Sickles, of Colo, Iowa; Mrs. Sarah Burnham, of Chicago; Mrs. Ella Butterfield, of Lewiston, Ill.; Mrs. Nettie Culbertson, of Ottumwa; Mrs. Josie Jennings of Baltimore, Md. Mr. Ish has also one brother and one sister living in Ohio--Amon Ish and Mrs. Louisa Smathers. He leaves thirty-six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
